Dressed in business attire, hundreds of eager School District of Palm Beach County high school students met with area career and college recruiters, learning more about local academic opportunities and future employment prospects. Students also got a chance to practice important soft skills, such as interviewing and networking.

Higher education institutions, area businesses, military organizations, and large corporations were all on hand to take part in the annual Claim Your Future Showcase, as it returned to an in-person event at the Palm Beach County Convention Center this year. Students recognize and appreciate the value and convenience the Showcase provides.

“I’m very excited because some of my older people say they didn’t have these opportunities,” said Santonio, a sophomore at Glades Central Community High School. “I’m happy that in this generation we get the help and access we need for our careers.”

The event is a coordinated effort between the School District of Palm Beach County and the Business Development Board Foundation of Palm Beach County.

“This collaboration ensures that the top talent right here in our backyard will choose to take a career path in Palm Beach County,” said Kristen Liberman, Palm Beach County Business Development Board vice president of public relations and media.

Superintendent Mike Burke kicked off the event by offering inspiring words to the crowd of students before business leaders presented information about financial literacy and the importance of developing soft skills.

This community and District partnership also helps shape the types of Career and Choice programs offered in the School District, thereby investing in the county's future workforce.
