Graduates of District Home Health Care Aide Program with School Board membersMore than 20 students recently graduated from the School District of Palm Beach County’s Home Health Care Aide Program, the very first cohort of students to do so. The program was started through Adult Education in September 2018, and offered out of the District’s Delray Full Service Center and the Adult Education Center.

The curriculum included 90 hours of Basic Healthcare Worker course work, and 75 hours of Home Health Aide coursework. The students in this program can ultimately obtain employment in the medical field at hospitals, nursing homes, independent living centers, and in-home health care agencies.

“This program was fast paced, rigorous, and challenging,” said Stuart Mears, the Assistant Principal of the Adult Education Center. “The quality of instruction was excellent, especially being that the instructor had a tremendous amount of real-world experience to bring to the table.”

The program also enables the students to pursue advanced degrees in the medical field. All of the students in this first graduating class have been offered positions in their field.

“Our adult students are moms, dads, husbands, wives, and many are in the workforce while participating in this program,” Mears said. “It just shows their level of dedication and drive.”

The student graduates were recognized at the School Board meeting in January for their achievement.
