Two School District of Palm Beach County departments will team up on an important initiative to support students in the community who are in need of meal assistance.

The School Food Service and Transportation departments are launching a pilot program delivering meals to the homes of Exceptional Student Education (ESE) students who have difficulties getting to food distribution sites.

Beginning in January 2021, the Kids First Mobile Meal Delivery initiative will start delivering meals in Riviera Beach, with the intention of expanding to other cities to reach additional students in need of food. The distribution list and routes were created by sending a ParentLink email to parents of ESE students who live in Riviera Beach and are registered at a District-operated Riviera Beach school.

“We hope that this program will be a success and we will be able to reach more children with our meals and assist our families,” said Allison Monbleau, director of School Food Service.

The service will be offered to families with at least one ESE student and their siblings who are enrolled in distance learning. Students who are eligible to receive the meals at home are those who are not already picking up meals in person through the grab-and-go options offered throughout the District.

Eligible families will receive one delivery per week. That delivery will include breakfast, lunch, supper, and snacks for every day of the week, for each eligible student.

“Our School Food Service motto is ‘Kids First, Providing Food For Thought’ and home-delivered meals is another way to provide nutritious food to our students so that they can be energized to learn,” Monbleau said.
