When classes resume in August, the District's goal is to achieve a 1:1 student to computer ratio. In the days leading up to the 2020-2021 school year, parents and guardians will be notified by their child's principal regarding dates and times to pick up devices.

The District distributed more than 60,000 computers to students in March when the mode of instruction shifted from in-person to remote lessons. The goal at that time was to ensure that students had at least one device in the home. The District has ordered an additional 82,000 laptops, and has more than 30,000 for distribution currently located at school sites.

The District is also continuing to work toward expanding the availability of free or low-cost Wi-Fi for students. Comcast continues to offer its Internet Essentials for free for 60 days to new, qualifying customers. Click here for more information.

The District is also working on other solutions to assist students in getting connected to the internet:
  • Issuing portable wireless internet devices or hotspots to students.
  • Helping to secure internet sponsorships, or companies/non-profits willing to cover the cost of internet at a student’s home.
  • Working with local governments in providing municipal Wi-Fi at housing complexes and public spaces.
  • Installing Wi-Fi extenders on school campuses.
  • Exploring opportunities to place Wi-Fi-enabled school buses in neighborhoods lacking internet access.
Students who currently have devices and are having technical issues with the laptop can contact their school. Additional information is also available on the Computer Distribution to Students page
