Three students from Olympic Heights Community High School recently received full college scholarships from the Eda & Cliff Viner Community Scholars Foundation, a local charitable organization based in Boca Raton.

Valerie Cruz, Davi Santos and Jellica Tollentino were selected out of 15 students in the county who were interviewed by the Foundation. The students, who are all in their school’s Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program, received their scholarships during a ceremony in May.

The Viner Community Scholarship is a program that provides south Palm Beach County High School students with four-year scholarships to colleges and universities in the Florida public educational system.

A mentor network is also created for the students to provide them with guidance and support to keep them on track during their tenure at college and to ensure the highest possible college graduation rates.

To be eligible for a Viner Scholarship, students must provide documentation of at least 100 hours of community service, a minimum of two letters of recommendation from their teachers, their ACT/SAT scores and proof of acceptance to a Florida public college or university. Since officially beginning in May 2015, the Foundation has provided more than $2 million in scholarship funds.
