During the Board Workshop on June 23, Superintendent Donald E. Fennoy II outlined the changes to existing COVID-19 protocols that will take effect when schools reopen on August 10 for the 2021-2022 school year.

Despite the pandemic-related challenges of the 2020-2021 school year, the School District of Palm Beach County’s third-graders’ overall results on the Florida Standards Assessments (FSA) English Language Arts (ELA) remains unchanged in 2021.

Just before the end of the school year, a group of Spanish-speaking eighth grade English Language Learner (ELL) students from Jupiter Middle School had the chance to tour Palm Beach State College (PBSC). The tour was conducted in Spanish, a valuable aspect of the excursion, especially for a group of young people still adjusting to life in the United States.

Academic achievements are not the only accomplishments that earn students recognition at the end of the school year in the School District of Palm Beach County. Employing positive attitudes, acting as role models, showing respect for others, and caring about the school and surrounding communities are also earning accolades for deserving students.

During the summer months, students who don’t practice and test their knowledge can lose critical math and literacy skills. This “summer slide” causes teachers to spend substantial time in the fall reteaching the lost material.

School Food Food Service will continue to distribute free meals during the summer, beginning on Tuesday, June 22 at select locations.

High school students in Palm Beach County now have access to free SAT and ACT preparation tools, thanks to a partnership between the School District and UWorld.

The Palm Beach County Health Department’s Immunization Van will be at the School District of Palm Beach County’s Welcome Center on Wednesdays this summer to help students prepare for the 2021-2022 school year.

Aliana Bien-Aime is the first in her family to graduate from high school and the first to attend college. Her career aspiration is to become an obstetrician, a fitting profession given her love of helping people.

Hernan Avila is one of five finalists from across the state this year. He will receive a cash prize for his nomination, and the winner will be announced by the state later this summer.

During the 2020-2021 school year, the Palm Beach County School District’s School Food Service department received a total of $185,000 from No Kid Hungry, including a recent grant of $30,000 to help support its mission of keeping kids first.

Seminole Ridge Community High School received a $20,000 grant from Lockheed Martin to fund the Project Lead the Way (PLTW) program at the school. PLTW is a nonprofit organization and leading curriculum provider in the fields of engineering, computer science, and biomedical sciences.
