Community Steps Up to Feed Students Over Spring Break
Posted on 03/18/2019

For many students, Spring Break is a time to play outside and hang out with friends and family. However, schools being closed during the Break creates a dilemma for some families who rely on subsidized meals, and begs the question; what will we eat during the day?

In response, three local organizations teamed up to assist the District’s students and their families. Just before the break, Living Hungry, Farm Share, and the South Florida Hunger Coalition distributed 10 truckloads of FEMA Meals-Ready-to-Eat (MREs).

Schools across the District were offered pallets of meals each containing 12 different meals. Sample menus include beef tacos, elbow macaroni, chili with beans, tuna casserole, and the additional toppings/sides needed.
