District High School Student Has Prescription For Success

March is Women’s History Month, and many high-achieving young women in Palm Beach County high schools are making strides that could one day have them making history in their own special way. Gena Jean-François, a senior at Boynton Beach High School, is one of those accomplished young women.

With an inspiring story that laid the groundwork for her pursuit of a career as a pediatrician, Jean-François works hard academically to be on track for a great future. Not only is she focused on her career goals, but she also wants to give back to her home country Haiti, where she spent her younger years.

Before moving to the United States with her family, Jean-François had an experience that she used to propel her towards her current career goal. As a baby suffering from an illness, she was given the wrong medicine by her doctor and developed asthma as a result.

That experience motivated Jean-François to become a healthcare professional because she cares so much for the well-being of others, particularly children.

Jean-François has been an Honor Roll student since her sophomore year. She is also an active member of several clubs including the French Honor Society Club, the Education Rocks Club, the Key Club, the AVID Club, and the Multicultural Club.

“Gena is a ray of sunshine. She takes her education seriously and is determined to make it in everything that she does,” said Margueline Rimpel, the Bilingual School Guidance Counselor at Boynton Beach High. “I am so proud of her. She is the example of a young girl that will be a great woman in the future.”
