Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Elementary School Principal Katrina Granger has been invited to join the Florida Department of Education’s Florida Principal Learning Network (FPLN) as part of the Florida Every Student Succeeds Act Leadership Learning Community (ELLC).

The statewide program is in partnership with the Wallace Foundation, and recognizes principals’ leadership in increasing academic outcomes for students. Florida’s ELLC is one of 11 teams in a national network.

The Florida sessions will be held this spring, and will include superintendents and principals from Broward, Okaloosa, and Walton school districts; Dr. Daniel Reyes-Guerra, Associate Professor of Educational Leadership at Florida Atlantic University; and various leaders from the Florida Department of Education. The following topics will be covered during the sessions:

  • Developing strategies for equipping leaders to lead for literacy, civics, and high-quality teaching and learning to achieve equitable outcomes for all students.

  • Analyzing school, district, and state-level data and evidence for all student groups to develop policy recommendations and data reporting that ensures a focus on closing Florida’s achievement gaps.

  • Developing mental health strategies for a “culture of caring” due to COVID-19.

Granger’s principal’s mission fits with the continued growth that she is expected to achieve with her participation.

“I am committed to producing college and career-ready IB Student Scholars by building a community of knowledgeable adults that provide rigorous and relevant teaching, modeling, and mentoring with the support of families, business partners, and the community,” she said.
