Guy Fieri in the Kitchen

Celebrity chef Guy Fieri has great taste in schools! He recently visited Lake Worth Community High School’s Culinary Arts Academy to make a $20,000 donation to the popular program.

The restaurateur, author, and television show host presented the donation from his Guy Fieri Foundation. He toured the academy facilities, took photos with students and faculty, and answered student questions. Fieri, who recently purchased a home in the Lake Worth Beach area, encouraged students to cultivate their culinary chops.

“If they want to be a chef or not, it doesn’t matter. Cooking is a life skill that everybody needs to have, and I’m so impressed with how this program’s going,” Fieri said. “I’d already heard great things about it, so to have a firsthand visit was great and hopefully we can contribute some more.”

The District’s Culinary Arts Program curriculum provides the opportunity for students to train for a variety of careers in the field of food service and preparation. Students have the opportunity to participate in ProStart Competitions as well as earn two industry certifications: the National Registry Food Safety Manager Certification and the ServSafe Certified Food Protection Manager Certification.

Academic and technical studies are integrated, emphasizing and building proficiency in food production and cooking, cost control, nutrition, and sanitation and workplace safety. Practical work experience stresses sanitation and safety and includes quantity cooking, baking, menu development, and food preparation. School site restaurants and catering opportunities will further enhance front-of-the-house and back-of-the-house skills as well as restaurant management.
