A rock music fan’s dream has become a reality, as the Park Vista Community High School Advanced Women’s Choir performed as the opening act for classic rock band, Foreigner.

The choir is composed of 23 students who are collectively known as Prima. They were nominated for a contest with iHeart Radio, and WKGR 98.7 FM The Gater. Students learned they won the contest during a virtual chat, when Foreigner bass guitarist Jeff Pilson joined in and surprised the choir.

For 10th grade student Ryleigh Kealen, ‘Juke Box Hero’ is her favorite Foreigner song. She has been listening to Foreigner and performing rock music almost her entire life. Kealen comes from a family of musicians and was thrilled to get the chance to sing on the same stage as the iconic band.

“I’ve been playing music since I was 6 years old, and this is the best opportunity to come my way so far. I could not be more grateful and excited,” Kealen said.

Prima is the highest level ensemble at Park Vista High. Participants must have at least one year of high school choral experience and pass an audition to be part of the group. They perform music from all genres, styles, and time periods.

"Prima is an incredibly hardworking group of students, and the community of love and support around them is the reason they have this opportunity,” said Rachael Holloway, the Director of Choirs at Park Vista High. “I am in awe of it and I am grateful beyond words. I am truly living the dream as their Director."
