Haitian Heritage Month

Once again, the School District of Palm Beach County will be commemorating Haitian Heritage Month throughout May. Celebrated in several states throughout the country, Haitian Heritage Month recognizes the valuable contributions made by Haitians to world history. It is a celebration of Haitian culture and an opportunity to share that culture with the community.

A series of events will take place at different library branches in the County, along with several school and community celebrations. This year’s events include the Haitian Heritage Month Essay Contest for High School Students sponsored by Gaskov Clergé Foundation and Educa Vision Inc.

For the contest, students were asked to ponder and then write a response to the following question: “In your opinion, how important is the use and the reinforcement of your native language (Haitian Creole) to your academic achievement?”

Other activities include Haitian American Culture Day on May 4 in Delray Beach, the Haitian Heritage Book Showcase and Essay Winners Presentation at the Lantana Branch Library, the Haitian Heritage Month Family Celebration at the Belle Glade Branch Library and much more. A list of events is included below.
