May 7, 2021 School Lunch Hero Day

Friday, May 7 is School Lunch Hero Day and with more than 24 million free meals distributed since the start of the pandemic, there’s never been a bigger year to celebrate the women and men who ensure that students receive the nutritious meals they need to feed their brains and bodies with breakfasts, lunches, suppers, and snacks.

Show your appreciation for the heroes smiling behind the masks, by wearing yellow on Friday as a way to say thanks for how they enthusiastically serve children, even in the most challenging times.

If you share this same passion for feeding children and are looking for a new career, School Food Services is hiring heroes to become manager interns and cafeteria staff at schools across the District.

Apply today for the manager intern program that will begin offering training in August. A high school diploma or GED is required, and a college degree is a plus. Manager interns are full-time employees who receive full benefits including health insurance, participation in the Florida Retirement System, and paid time off. Trainees start at $15.24 an hour.

If you’re looking for a part-time job, School Food Service is also hiring cafeteria staff. Most positions include a set schedule of 20-25 hours per week with a five-hour workday that finishes by 2 p.m. This gives employees the flexibility to attend college, take a second job, or spend time with family.

Starting pay is $12 an hour. Cashier or food service experience is a plus. School-based sites are closed for two weeks at winter break, as well as one week for spring break and a week for Thanksgiving.

All applicants must be 18 years of age or older, pass a drug screen and a level-two background test ($99 fee) in addition to passing a physical demand test to lift 35 pounds. To apply, go to palmbeachschools.org/jobs or email [email protected] for more information.
