Post Dorian Update: Welcome Back Students and Staff Thursday, September 5
Posted on 09/04/2019

Schools and District facilities are prepared to welcome students Thursday, September 5.

Buses will be back on the roads, and schools will return to a regular schedule through the remainder of the week.

Sporting events are cancelled Thursday and Friday, and the District will work with teams to reschedule any missed games.

“I want to thank our shelter workers, volunteers and School Food Service personnel who served 12,000 meals to the more than 2,700 evacuees who waited out the storm in one of our nine school-based shelters and the numerous School Police officers were embedded at the schools to ensure the safety of our guests,” said Superintendent Donald Fennoy. “I am also proud to say that we effectively provided school and shelter updates to more than 300,000 families and employees through the storm.”

While there was no damage sustained to any District facilities or schools, the District is mindful that our students and staff may have family members and friends who have been affected by the devastation in the Bahamas or who continue to be in the path of the Hurricane Dorian.

District leadership is currently reviewing ways that we can come together to help our neighbors in the Bahamas as they face a long road to recovery. Details of the relief plans will be shared in the coming days.
