Local professional baseball players are motivating students at Jupiter Elementary School to hit this school year out of the park.

The Miami Marlins Foundation, in partnership with The Kiwanis Club of Little Havana, donated 150 tote bags filled with school supplies to every fifth grader at Jupiter Elementary. Each bag included a composition notebook, a pack of loose-leaf paper, pencils, crayons, colored pencils, a glue stick, a Marlins pencil case, a ruler, and an eraser.

While distributing the supplies on September 8, Jupiter Hammerheads players visited with students, talking to them about the importance of teamwork and the skills needed to become a professional baseball player, according to Jupiter Elementary Principal Nicole Daly.

“Seeing the professional baseball players and hearing about how they achieved their goals and made their dreams come true was inspiring for our students and staff,” Daly said.

Daly said players even answered questions in both English and Spanish for bilingual students, including sharing what it was like to learn another language while playing baseball.

The retail value of the donation totaled $4,500. Click here for more information about becoming a business partner with the School District of Palm Beach County.
