School Board Honors Take Stock in Children Mentors for National Mentoring Month

Posted on 1/20/2023

During the January 18 board meeting, nearly 20 mentors were recognized by the Palm Beach County School Board, a timely and much-appreciated event for National Mentoring Month. Take Stock in Children mentors are community and School District volunteers who meet with mentees from the Take Stock in Children program.

Take Stock in Children is an academically-focused mentoring program that guides students toward successful completion of high school and enrollment in college. A Take Stock Mentor receives training and resources to support their student's academic success. Mentors sign a contract committing to donate up to one hour per week mentoring their student in-person or virtually.

The mentors attend to the emotional, social, and academic needs of their students, making it possible for the students to be college-ready and earn a college scholarship upon high school graduation. The mentors support their mentees by listening, encouraging, guiding, and helping them navigate their educational journey, giving them hope for the future.
