Students Get Real-World Experience on April 20 for Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day

Posted on 3/10/2023

The School District of Palm Beach County will observe Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day on Thursday, April 20, 2023, and allow K-12 students to accompany a parent or guardian to their non-District workplace. Due to a conflict with State testing, this is a different date than the National Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day, which occurs on April 27.

Students participating in Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day on April 20 should submit a note to their school with notification of their impending absence. Participating students will receive an excused absence for the day.

District employees who want to bring their school-age child to their District workplace are advised to obtain approval in advance from their supervisor. Children can be kindergarten age and older. Employees are responsible for their children while they are on District property.

Educators have found that Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day is relevant to several common academic goals, since it offers real-world applications to school studies, furthers partnerships between schools and the business community, encourages gender equity, and enhances mentoring programs. This event encourages young people to stay in school, seek post-secondary education, and pursue a greater variety of careers.
