Mr. Burke received the distinction at the Shining Star Awards Ceremony on November 20.

“It's an honor to serve in this role as the superintendent. I recognize that when I accept this award, it is on behalf of the entire team because nothing gets done without all of the employees pitching in,” Burke said. “It is a proud moment for our District and for myself, but the congratulations and all the praise goes back to our teachers, our school administrators, and our support staff who work each day to serve our students.”

The Superintendent was also praised for his efforts to promote the District’s 35 dual language programs and six International Spanish academies. He acknowledged the Hispanic community that represents nearly 40% of students in the District, and the importance of welcoming all cultures in the District to create a better educational experience for every student.

“We chose the Superintendent to receive this award for his leadership skills and his ability to lead a diverse school district,” said Juan Pagan, President of the FHACC. “With his finance abilities and leadership skills, Superintendent Burke has been very effective in his role.”

Additional awards were presented in the categories of Company, Government Official, Government Institution, Business Executive, Media Personality, Healthcare, and Law Enforcement Officer of the Year.

The Shining Star Awards began in 2009 to recognize and present awards to a prestigious group of honorees, including individuals, corporate entities, and educational institutions who have shown a strong dedication to the community and culture of Palm Beach County.
