GOAL AND OBJECTIVE
In order to acquaint community leaders and the various education stakeholders on its academic functions and operations the School District of Palm Beach County (SDPBC) announces the presentation of the Citizens Academy.
During the Citizens Academy information will be shared with participants about the education system of SDPBC that will give them the necessary knowledge to better support education and inform and motivate their respective community for increase involvement in the academic achievement of all students.
The School District of Palm Beach County is the eleventh largest in the nation and the fifth largest in the state of Florida with 187 schools, serving more than 193,000 students who speak 145 languages and dialects. As the largest employer in Palm Beach County, the school district has about 27,168 employees, including more than 12,800 teachers.

The Citizens Academy will cover several topics that will provide in-depth knowledge about the District's Communications & Engagement Division. They include:
- Overview of the Communications & Engagement Department
- The need for community engagement and for advocacy for public education
- How we communicate with our stakeholders: Our many platforms
- Reading and Literacy – District’s Strategy – Tools for Support
- ESOL and Welcome Center
- FAFSA Competition and SAT Prep
- National Merit Scholarship
The 2018 Spanish Citizen Academy will take place at Okeeheelee Middle School. Lunch will be provided and you will leave with a package containing some District’s important documents for parents and the community. You will also receive a certificate of participation at the completion of the academy. The Citizens Academy participants will be recognized at the School Board meeting following the date of the Academy and take a souvenir picture with the Board and the Superintendent.

The Citizen Academy will be presented by a panel of several District’s Administrators who will each cover a topic. At the end of the presentation, participants will have the opportunity to ask questions. Academy coordinators and presenters will take into consideration concerns and suggestions from participants for further avenues to explore in order to enrich more the contents of the presentations and add more topics and take other initiatives for improving our services to our students.
