The Growing Beyond Earth (GBE) Project is a component of the Fairchild Challenge developed in partnership with NASA. It consists of in-classroom botany experiments that help NASA learn more about the optimal growing conditions of plants that can be used aboard spacecraft. GBE is unique in its focus on real scientific research and its relevance to NASA mission planning. In the future, fresh vegetables may be an important part of the astronaut diet during long-duration missions beyond Earth's orbit.
