STEM Programs in Palm Beach County Schools
Recognizing the critical importance of STEM education in the lives of their students, the School District of Palm Beach County is dedicated to advancing quality STEM education. A variety of STEM-related opportunities for K-12 students and educators that are offered by District staff and community partners.
A multi-year model of professional learning and leadership designed to build and sustain a culture of STEM teaching and learning while developing teachers as STEM leaders throughout their school system. STEMspiration is engaging and developing Teacher Leaders through a partnership with Discovery Education to drive sustainable transformation and fuel a single school culture focused on high expectations, literacy, collaboration, and inquiry across PreK - 8th grade pilot classrooms.
The program provides the District’s teachers paid, real-world learning experiences while providing businesses with highly talented employees for short-term assignments. As a result of this program, secondary teachers learn first-hand how the content they are teaching is used in the workplace and business benefit from highly-energized employees for short-term summer assignments.
Created by the PBC STEM Education Council, and in partnership with the School District of Palm Beach County, this program fosters the STEM talent pipeline and helps shape the future of the PBC workforce.

MacArthur Beach Explorations is an environmental education program that immerses students experiential learning within our local natural resources and provides them with “real-world” connections to the life and environmental science concepts that they are studying in the classroom. The goal of this program is to provide elementary and middle schools students from Title 1 schools with quality field experiences at John D. MacArthur Beach State Park.
Fun-filled, casual evenings of networking, brainstorming, and collaboration where education professionals who are interested in building STEM in Palm Beach County gather. Participants learn more about what STEM integration looks like in classrooms across the county, hear about special opportunities, and get resources that can be used in classrooms.
Growing Beyond Earth
The Growing Beyond Earth (GBE) Project is a component of the Fairchild Challenge developed in partnership with NASA. It consists of in-classroom botany experiments that help NASA learn more about the optimal growing conditions of plants that can be used aboard spacecraft. GBE is unique in its focus on real scientific research and its relevance to NASA mission planning. In the future, fresh vegetables may be an important part of the astronaut diet during long-duration missions beyond Earth's orbit.

- FIRST Robotics - Inspiring young people to be science and technology leaders and innovators by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering, and technology skills; that inspire innovation; and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership. - Science Fair - Providing learners with an opportunity to investigate the things they are curious about, design and execute their own experiments, practice how scientists and mathematicians do their work, and make choices about disciplines they may want to study in their future.
- SECME - (Science, Engineering, Communications, Mathematics, Enrichment) strives to increase the pool of students who will be prepared to enter and complete post-secondary studies in STEM fields and create a more diverse and globally competitive workforce. Click HERE for more information.
