How Does an Elementary School Become Certified?

The process begins with the school’s principal submitted an Intent to Apply. This Intent to Apply simply states that they are interested in applying for STEM Certification during that school year shares some key reasons why their school should be considered for Certification and showcases the STEM mission, vision, and culture of that school. Once accepted, STEM Leadership Team Members at each of the schools attend 3 meetings throughout the school year that prepares and assists them in documenting evidence of the STEM culture, the application of 21st-century skills, and the curricular integration present within the school site that they will submit for review in March 2019. A STEM Certification Review Committee collaborates and evaluates submitted evidence from the schools (using a rubric) to determine the STEM Certification status of each of the schools.
