The Wellness Promotion Policy
The purpose of this Policy is intended to fulfill the requirement under Public Law 111-296 (42 U. S.C. § 1758b) and Florida Statutes Section 1003.453(1) that school districts shall have a local "school wellness policy" to promote student health, safety and the reduction of childhood obesity, as well as to promote wellness for District employees. The District is committed to providing a school environment that enhances learning and development of lifelong wellness practices.

As known in 2004, there was a mandate by the Federal Government for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Reauthorization Act of 2004 which required all Local Education Agencies (LEA) that operate the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) to create and implement a Local School Wellness Policy by June 30, 2006.

The superintendent at that time designated the School Food Service Department to oversee this initiative for the entire District. Since its inception, the Wellness Promotion Policy (2.035) has been adopted and it has had 4 revisions. In addition, a Wellness Promotion Task Force was created. It meets 5 times a year with District and Community Stakeholders. To date, 10 Wellness Promotion Policy Annual Reports have been developed to evaluate the progress and growth of specific initiatives, programs, and the District's Wellness Promotion journey as a whole.

To move forward in the process of revisions and adoption for this policy, The School District of Palm Beach County held the Wellness Promotion Policy (2.035) Community/Public Input Workshop on Monday, January 30, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. at the District's Board Room.
