Governor Ron DeSantis Announces Four COVID-19 Federally Supported Vaccination Sites

Governor Ron DeSantis has signed Executive Order 20-315 which outlines that providers can only administer the COVID-19 vaccine to the following groups:

Eligible persons as of 12/23/2020

  • Healthcare personnel with direct patient contact.
  • Long-term care facility residents and staff.
  • Persons 65 years of age and older.
  • Persons deemed extremely vulnerable to COVID-19 by hospital providers.

Superintendent Donald E. Fennoy II has submitted a letter to Governor Ron DeSantis asking to prioritize eligibility of vaccines for District employees who are in contact with students.

There will be a pop-up vaccination site with 500 doses available at the Anquan Boldin Stadium on the campus of Pahokee High School from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. this Friday, February 12, and Saturday, February 13, or until the 500 vaccines are distributed. Anquan Bodin Stadium is at 1204 Larrimore Road, Pahokee.

These vaccines are available on a first-come, first-serve basis and are only for individuals 65 and older. Once the first dose is received, patients will be notified when to return for their second dose.

The distributions in Pahokee will continue weekly on Fridays and Saturdays until there is no longer a need for vaccines in the area.

An allotment of COVID-19 vaccines for residents of the Glades will be distributed through a clinic in Belle Glade. However, details on the distribution are not yet available. The District will provide an update once this information is available.

Due to the extensive current waitlist, the Department of Health-Palm Beach has deactivated vaccine requests via email to focus on scheduling current requests. Once current requests are fulfilled, future appointments will be made available directly through vaccination sites, and details for these registration systems will be provided at a later date.

Local efforts by Palm Beach County will be in addition to the direct rollouts of the vaccine by the state of Florida or direct deliveries by federal agencies or contractors. Strategies will include designated points of distribution (PODs) at both fixed and mobile locations that will be accessible by walk-up and/or drive-up. Details of the local distribution plans are still being worked out and the timing of operations is dependent upon the supply and distribution of the vaccine by the Florida Department of Health, the Florida Division of Emergency Management, and the County Health Department.
