Charter Certification Renewals

Charter School instructional employees should renew their Professional Certificate through the District Certification Office. Retirees or individuals not currently employed by the School District of Palm Beach County must apply directly to the Florida Department of Education to renew a certificate. 


Professional Certificate Renewal Requirements

  • You have earned 120 inservice points and 20 of those points are in Students with Disabilities; and
  • You are in the last year of your Certificate's validity period. 
    (Example: Your Certificate is from 7/1/2014 to 6/30/19 = you can renew anytime after 7/1/2018.)

Types of Renewal Credit

For five or fewer areas to be renewed, excluding endorsements:
120 inservice points must be earned during the five-year validity period of the certificate.
For more that five areas to renewed:
Additional renewal credit may be required.

Inservice points, or the equivalent, can be earned through the following*:
  • Attend District Professional Development opportunities.
  • Complete six (6) credit hours of course work at an accredited college or university. Course work must reflect a grade of “C” or better. (Submit an official college transcript when using this method for renewal.) Dissertation courses do not satisfy renewal requirements.
  • Pass a Florida Subject Area Exam specific to the coverage on the Certificate to be renewed (the equivalent of sixty in-service points).
  • Teach a college level course at an acceptable institution may be accepted the same as credit earned for the course. (See College Level Course Teaching Verification sample.)
  • Have a valid National Board Certificate and complete the ESE twenty (20) inservice points to meet the renewal requirements.

*A combination of the above can be used.

Steps for Renewal

  1. Apply to the FLDOE for your renewal.
  2. Complete the Renewal Payment Document. The document contains options for payment: pay online via SchoolCashOnline and save your receipt. (Cash Online Instructions)
  3. Submit the completed Renewal Payment Document, the receipt for payment (if using SchoolCashOnline), and the appropriate documentation of inservice to the Certification Office via one of the methods below.
  • In person 
  • District Pony Mail
  • U.S. Mail
  • Email (Only if Official Transcripts are not needed for renewal.)

Applications should be received by June 21, 2019 to ensure enough time for processing. Certificates that are not renewed in time will result in termination of employment, pending job requirements.
