Fair and Impartial Policing

It is the policy of the School District of Palm Beach County Police Department to protect the Constitutional Rights of all people and to treat every citizen, student, and school staff member in a fair and impartial manner. To reinforce these commitments, the department prohibits the use of discriminatory enforcement practices in law enforcement actions.

Discriminatory enforcement practices, also known as biased policing, occurs when inappropriate considerations of specified characteristics are employed while enforcing the law or providing police services. Specified characteristics include, but are not limited to, race, ethnic background, national origin, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, socioeconomic status, immigration status, housing status, age, disability, occupation, language fluency, political status, or any other legally protected characteristics.

Discriminatory enforcement practices can alienate our community and students, foster distrust of the police, invite media scrutiny, prompt legislative action, and judicial intervention, and potentially lead to allegations of Constitutional and civil rights violations.

As we perform our duties, it is imperative that we afford every individual that comes into contact with the School District of Palm Beach County Police Department the fundamental right to equal protection under the law. Our employees will not engage in discriminatory enforcement and we will not tolerate this type of conduct. Any person may file a complaint with the Police Department if they believe that they have been subjected to unfair and partial policing.
