Middle School Programs and Registration

The Middle School After School Program (MSAS) has been providing after school since 1995 through the initial legislation “School and Community Resource Grant Program” (1994).

The legislation specifically outlined three components: recreation, academic support, and social skills development. The MSAS Program receives monies through the Florida Department of Education, Florida Safe Schools Funding administered through the District.

  • Thirty-Eight schools are part of the MSAS Program. Over 4,000 students are served daily.
  • Each school designs its program in consideration of the needs of the students and resources available at the school. Hours are based upon each school’s operating hours.
  • The specific activities are determined by each school based upon the interest of the students and the resources available at the school site.
  • Students who qualify for free and reduced lunch are able to attend after school and before school program free.
  • The Program is offered in the afternoon, Monday through Thursday. A majority of middle schools provide provide a before school program.
  • The MSAS Program generally begins after Labor Day and ends by mid-May.
  • The MSAS Program utilizes the after school activity buses and adheres to the schedule that transportation provides to the school.
