Arts Integration Project

A woman reads documents in front of a graphic with the words %22Literacy and Art Integration%22 and %22SDPBC and The Norton Museum of Art Partnership,%22 surrounded by artistic elements.

Since its launch in 2019, the Arts & Literacy for 2nd Grades Partnership has transformed the way young learners connect with reading, language, and the visual arts. Created through a collaboration between the Norton Museum of Art and the School District of Palm Beach County, the program now serves 17 schools, using the power of art to inspire literacy and spark curiosity in second-grade classrooms.

As students explore celebrated works by artists such as Keith Haring and Constantin Brancusi, they build critical thinking skills, expand their academic vocabulary, and make meaningful connections to their Benchmark Literature curriculum. Every lesson encourages students to see, think, discuss, and create, turning works of art into opportunities for deeper learning.

The partnership extends beyond the classroom through specialized professional development for educators, collaborative curriculum design, and immersive museum experiences. At the heart of the program is the unique collaboration between paired art and literacy teachers, who work together to create engaging, interdisciplinary lessons that blend visual arts with literacy instruction, enriching every student's educational journey.
