Reproductive Health and Disease Education
Human Growth & Development
Per Florida State Statute 1003.42(2)(o), the School District of Palm Beach County is required to provide comprehensive age-appropriate and developmentally appropriate Health instruction to all students in grades K-12 based upon Florida’s Health Standards.
Florida’s Health Standards in middle school and high school, include instruction on the topics of Reproductive Health and Disease Education, which includes awareness of the benefits of sexual abstinence as the expected standard and the consequences of teenage pregnancy, as well as the prevention and control of disease.
According to State Statute 1003.42(5), “any student whose parent makes written request to the school principal shall be exempted from the teaching of reproductive health or any disease, including HIV/AIDS, its symptoms, development, and treatment. A student so exempted may not be penalized by reason of that exemption.”
