Dual Language: Two-Way Immersion Programs

  • Dual Language: Two-Way Immersion in Palm Beach County refers to teaching and learning in two languages. It develops bilingualism, biculturalism, and biliteracy. Two-Way Immersion supports two groups of students. Students who speak the partner language (Spanish or Haitian Creole) and those whose primary language is English. They learn together in both languages. The benefits of Two-Way Immersion are as follows:

    • Academic Achievement in both English and the Partner Language - Immersion students typically demonstrate increased attention control, better memory, and superior skills. Research shows Immersion students perform as well as or better than non-immersion students on standardized tests.
    • Bilingualism and Biliteracy - Students develop a high level of oral and written proficiency in both the partner language and English. Immersion students are better prepared for the global community and job markets where language is an asset.
    • Multicultural Awareness and Sensitivity - Students develop and demonstrate positive attitudes towards other languages and cultures.
