Dress Code

  • The purpose of the WES dress code is to enhance school safety, reduce peer pressure and student conflict, foster school pride, and enrich the educational environment. This dress code was developed in compliance with School Board Policy 5.182 and received majority approval from the School Advisory Council, WES faculty and staff, and the parents of WES students.

    Uniform-style Polo shirts with the WES logo and School Spirit T-shirts may be purchased from the WES PTO.

    Tops

    • Long or short sleeve collared shirts of any solid color (Not allowed: logos, graphics, writing)
    • Polo-style dresses of any solid color
    • Uniform Polo-style shirts with the WES logo*
    • Sweaters, jackets, and outerwear of any solid color (Not allowed: no images that promote drugs, alcohol, or profanity)
    • Fridays: School Spirit T-Shirts*

    Bottoms

    • Pants in khaki, navy, or black (worn at the waist)
    • Bermuda-style shorts, skirts, skorts, or jumpers in khaki, navy or black (worn at the waist)
      (Not allowed: Lengths that are shorter than the fingertips when standing with arms at the side)
    • Fridays: Jeans or jeans shorts, traditional denim blue color (Not allowed: No cut-offs, holes or rips; no colored jeans; no jeggings)
    • On days with a morning temperature of 60° or below: Jeans in traditional denim blue color (Not allowed: No cut-offs, holes or rips; no colored jeans; no jeggings)

    Shoes

    • Sneakers (with socks, for sanitary reasons)
      (Not allowed: Shoes with wheels; shoes with heels)

    Other

    • No tops/bottoms should be spandex, camouflage or lycra material including basketball or cheerleading shorts. Athletic wear is not permitted.
    • Hats, caps, scarves, bandanas or other headgear are not permitted unless required for bona fide religious reasons, health purposes prescribed by a physician, or safety helmets as required by law. The wearing of a hat or cap to protect the skin from the sun during PE or recess is an acceptable exemption to this rule.
