Cross Country
There are a few things that you need to do before your student-athlete can join the team.
1. You must complete an athletic packet, and uploaded it to aktivate.com link
2. Your student athlete must have running shoes. We suggest going to Runner’s Edge running store
(3195 N Federal Hwy, Boca Raton, FL 33431) and get fitted for the correct footwear rather than
going to Dick’s Sporting Goods or ordering online. Please mention Spanish River Cross Country
team and Runner’s Edge will provide you with a discount of 15-20%. No brand of shoes is better
than the others. Runner’s Edge employees are trained to fit you for the right shoe and brand for
your foot and shoe wear patterns. You don’t have to break the bank for a good pair of running
shoes.
3. Our team is a no-cut sport. So long as your student-athlete attends practice regularly and has a
good attitude, they will have the opportunity to compete at most of the local cross country
meets.
Season information
Cross Country season runs from August until November (for Junior Varsity athletes, the season will end
in late October). Practices, team dinners, and meets are all important. Student-athletes and families
must provide their own transportation to meets. Carpooling is highly recommended.
Travel
Varsity runners will be traveling to select meets during the season. We currently have one out of state
meet scheduled and athletes will be responsible for airfare and some meals.
Attendance
Practice is mandatory if you want to be on the team. If you are not going to be at practice, you must
notify a coach via text or Remind app prior to the practice with an explanation as to the reason for your
absence. You will then be notified by a coach as to whether it will be considered an excused or
unexcused absence. Three (3) unexcused absences will result in suspension or dismissal from the team.
In order to not miss practice, schedule other activities including haircuts, tutoring, medical
appointments, and appointments of any other kind after practice. Great student-athletes are those who
learn to be good time managers so as to balance academics and athletics. Be smart about the use of
your time.
Parent Meeting
8/18 at 6:45pm we will have a parent meeting at South County Regional Park, Pond Apple Pavilion (this
is a new change).Contact coach Doug Horn for more information.

-
For tryouts, you need to have completed an athletic packet, and uploaded it to aktivate.com link
-

-
-

-
Tryouts take place in the Spanish River gym. Conditioning will take place in the gym and weight room. All players should meet in the gym.
Season information
Volleyball season runs from August until early November. Please see the attached schedule. Practices, team bondings, games, and tournaments are all important. Please schedule around what you see. Players and families must provide their own transportation to these events. Carpooling is highly recommended.
Travel
Varsity has one overnight travel tournament, similar to a stay in play. Hotel fee for that tournament will be included in the dues. All other tournaments for ALL teams are considered local, between West Palm and Miami. For the hotel stay, about a month before the tournament I secure the rooms. Parents are given that information and I try to block off rooms for them too. The girls room 4 to 1 room.
Attendance
The general attendance policy is: if you miss practice, you would sit out the minimum first set of a match. However, if you were absent due to an emergency or doctor's appointment, we may make exceptions.
Play time
If your daughter is concerned about playtime, she should discuss it with the coach at the end, or beginning of a practice to see what she can do to improve. Please let your daughters be proactive in the situations because they are the ones at practice.
Team dues
Outside of the $75 insurance you pay (that is for the school and any sport that your daughter would want to play, you’ll never have to pay that again per each year), we have dues for each level of the team.
-
Varsity: $315
-
Junior varsity: $175
-
Freshman: $ 130
The dues are important because they cover the cost of jerseys, replacing jerseys, balls, equipment, referee, costs, tournaments costs, clothing, and food, and other items provided to the girls during the season.
Players will be given 2 parent tshirts for parents to attend HOME volleyball matches for free if they have the shirt on. This is included in the dues. Additional shirts can be purchased.
*post season is not included in the entry.
Jerseys
Jerseys are required to be returned at the end of the season. Players that do not return them at the end of the season will be issued a $75 fee on their school account. Understand that jerseys are one of our biggest costs of the season and having to replace them every year really adds up.
Practice schedule
Varsity will be in the weight room for the first hour of practice starting at 3pm. JV and freshman will be on the volleyball courts from 3:15 to 5:30. They start setting up and then at 3pm. Jv and Freshman will practice on one court starting at 4:15. Varsity finishes practice at 6 PM.
Practice is Monday through Friday with possible Saturdays (the girls would be notified in advance if it needed to happen) and there is no practice if there’s a game for that team.
Corporate/Business Sponsorships
If you have a business that would like to sponsor/donate to our team. We can include a logo or company name on our team shirts or we also have banners that will hang in the gym. I can provide you with our 501c Tax ID for your accounting information. The fee would cover your daughter's dues.
Parent Meeting
On 8/18 at 6pm we will have a parent meeting on google classroom. It will be recorded. You just need to log in through your daughter's google classroom. Hopefully any/all questions will be answered.
Varsity Beginning Practices
Practices before school actually begins should be 2-5. Our teacher schedule hasn't been released yet for meetings, so there may be some changes.
