Middle School Course Recovery (Compass)

  • The Middle School Course Recovery program provides middle schools with the tools to minimize student retention and to provide opportunities for students who have failed core academic classes.

    General Information: 

    1. In order to pass for the school year, students are required to earn four points in each academic subject area and one year-long elective. Academic subjects are Language Arts, Math, Social Studies  Science. If you have failed one or more core subjects, this program will allow your child to retake the subject, for the quarter that was failed to receive a better grade.
    2. Students who have successfully earned a grade change will be provided with written documentation to bring home.
    3. Up to 50% of  work can be done at home. (this excludes pre-tests and final exams)
    4. Student progress can be monitored by parents through the virtual backpack. This is accessible once the student has logged on and is located in the top left corner of the page. Please check your student’s work periodically to assist them.
    5. This excludes the separate summer compass registration form that will come out later in the year.

    In order to remediate the course the child must:

    1. Behave appropriately allowing for the integrity of the academic environment to be maintained.
    2. Successfully complete all computer work, worksheets, and take the final exam, earning a 60% or higher.
    3. School dress code is enforced!
    4. Attend the program until the date of completion. (Students are required to submit daily attendance, while in the computer lab, each day to prove attendance. This will be monitored by the teachers to ensure accuracy)
