Parent FAQs
-
How does "Here Comes the Bus" work?
HCTB is an easy-to-use website and app that enables parents to see the location of their child’s school bus on a smartphone, tablet, or personal computer.
-
How much does it cost?
"Here Comes the Bus" is available at no cost to all families. It's free!
-
Do I need separate accounts for each of my children? Or separate accounts if we all want to be notified separately?
You and your children can access all the information about the buses you need using just one "Here Comes the Bus" account.
-
Is the information private and secure?
"Here Comes the Bus" uses HTTPS, just like a bank or online store, which means that all communications between your web browser and the site is encrypted and secure. (That’s what the S in “HTTPS” stands for – secure.)
-
Can I view the website in a language other than English?
Yes. The Here Comes the Bus website is available in Spanish and French, in addition to English. If your computer is already set to display one of these languages, the website will automatically use the same language. Otherwise, you can change the language by clicking the current language (such as English) at the top right of the web page.
-
What’s the difference between the mobile app and the website?
The primary difference is how you access the data. The look and feel is different on a mobile device for better on-the-go use.
-
Does the bus tracking system also track a student’s location while they are not riding the bus?
A student’s location is not being tracked by the application. Here Comes the Bus® only tracks the location of the bus.
-
Do families have to participate in this program for their student to continue to ride the bus?
There is no cost associated with using Here Comes the Bus®, and participation is completely optional.
-
What happens when a student moves buses and routes?
Student assignment is based on Name and ID parents/students will only have access to follow the route the student is currently assigned and not past assignments.
Troubleshooting Questions
-
What is my school code?
33000 is the school code for all Palm Beach County students.
-
I registered my account and the site is asking for a student ID.
You should have a studet ID number assigned to your student by his/her school. If you don't have this already, please contact your school for this information.

I added my child to my account but there is no bus assigned.
If the account sign-up occurs over the weekend, it will not show bus stop information. Stops will only show on days where a stop is assigned (Monday-Friday). Feel free to complete your account sign-up and check your child’s stop information first thing Monday morning. If issues persist, please contact the Transportation Call Center at 561-357-1110, Monday - Friday 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (Normal School Day Hours), Summer Hours: Monday - Thursday 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., No School Day Hours: 6:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

-
What If there is a bus substitution?
SDPBC Transportation makes bus substitutions to perform preventative maintenance and in response to the management of drivers.
Based on how you customize the app, you will receive a push notification with a message similar to the following when a substitution is made:
Bus A1234 has been substituted with bus A5678 for the AM route. Please monitor the bus in the app or website as you may not receive your arrival notification via push or email.
When a substitution is made, some features of the app may not work. For example, your student’s bus stop and school stop may not change from red to green when the stops are made. However, you should still be able to track your student’s bus.
