Home Health Aide Program
At the Chuck Shaw Technical Education Center, the student is introduced to the concept of patient management in the home which includes physical comfort and safety, nutrition, and legal and ethical responsibilities.The Purpose of Home Care
One of the most important reasons for offering health care in the home is that most people who are ill or disabled feel more comfortable at home. Health care in familiar surroundings improves mental and physical well-being. It has proven to be a major factor in the healing process.Where do HHA’s Work?

A Combination Class
The Chuck Shaw Technical Education Center’s Home Health Aide Program integrates medical theory with skills-based, practical training.
This course will combine three different classes:
• Basic Healthcare Worker
• Home Health Aide
• English for Speakers of
Other Languages Classes (ESOL)What Do Home Health Aides Do?
Home Health Aides (HHA) help the disabled and those with chronic illnesses perform activities of daily living. They often care for older adults who need assistance and are the “foot soldiers” of any team that provides direct personal care.Typical Job Duties Include
• Assist client with daily personal tasks, like bathing or dressing
• Shop for groceries and prepare meals per the client’s dietary specifications
• Arrange transportation for medical visits and other outings
• Help schedule appointments
• Housekeeping and laundryPrerequisites for the HHA Course
Level of English equivalent to level 5, 6 or 7 of English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
