Choice Program

  • The K-5 Environmental Science and Field Research Choice Program offers the opportunity for students to become Young Environmental Stewards (YES!) where they explore and evaluate the many challenges and concerns related to our environment including: gopher tortoise preservation, sustainable gardening that provides healthy food options, ecosystem restoration, recycling, aquatic life protection, and energy conservation.  This hands-on, high-interest, experiential learning builds student awareness of their responsibility of protecting and caring for the environment.  Student-centered field experiences developed through scientific inquiry introduce environmental concepts that students will value and continue to develop throughout their lives.

The 6-8 Environmental Science and Technology Choice Program offers students in the Environmental Science and Technology program an opportunity to learn to use various technologies as educational tools to develop environmental science-based academic projects, presentations, learning activities, and assessments.  Students use technology to explore, evaluate, and communicate environmental issues regarding conservation, restoration, preservation, and sustainability by applying this knowledge through Gopher tortoise preservation, ecosystem restoration, recycling, sustainable gardening, aquatic life protection, and energy conservation.  Eighth-grade students can earn a Technology Industry Certification.  Students will have an opportunity to take advanced and accelerated courses.
