Her teaching career began in 1988 after graduating with her bachelor's degree in special education from the University of Florida and moving on to earn her Master's degree in special education from Florida State University. Yes, she is a Gator, not a Seminole!! Working with students at Bak MSOA has been one of the most rewarding experiences in her life and she looks forward to many more years in this wonderful place.
Mrs. McCormick coordinates services for students with special needs, including Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and gifted Education Plans (EPs). She is available to answer your questions about your child's IEP, EP, or to discuss evaluation needs. Email: Laurie.McCormick@palmbeachschools.org

Olga looks forward to more joyful years collaborating with faculty and students within the areas of Exceptional Student Education and English Speakers of Other Languages.
Gifted
-
Gifted offerings at Bak MSOA include Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies, and are open to eligible students with a gifted Education Plan (EP). Gifted math classes are not offered. Advanced math courses are based on a variety factors that determine placement.
Parents often ask about the difference between gifted and advanced classes. Both options are challenging, however advanced classes are available to any student with strong academic qualifications, while gifted classes are only open to identified gifted students. Additionally, teachers who teach gifted classes have completed gifted coursework that includes innovative strategies to enrich and differentiate curriculum to match gifted students' abilities and interests.

New and Incoming Parents
Auditions
You are not required to bring a copy of your child's gifted Education Plan (EP) to sign up for auditions. However, if your child is admitted to Bak, you will need to provide a copy of your child's EP in order to register for gifted classes.
Registration
You are required to provide a copy of your child's gifted EP to Bak MSOA in order for gifted classes to be approved. The EP must be current and valid through the beginning of the student's 6th grade gifted year.
- Contact your elementary school’s ESE Coordinator to request a copy of the EP and to discuss updating the EP for middle school. The elementary school ESE Coordinator can update the EP if it is expired or about to expire and assist you if your child has not been identified gifted or placed in gifted. If your child attends private school, contact the elementary school that your child is zoned to attend and ask the ESE Coordinator for assistance. Find your zoned elementary school: Find My School.
- Bring a copy of the EP to new student registration. If you have an EP meeting after registration, make sure to send a copy to Bak MSOA's ESE Coordinator immediately following the meeting. The EP must be received before the end of your child’s 5th grade school year for placement in gifted classes at the start of 6th grade.
Please note, the ESE Coordinator at Bak cannot assist with determining eligibility or developing an EP until your child is a current student at Bak MSOA. For students who are not already identified as eligible for gifted, contact the appropriate elementary school ESE Coordinator to discuss the process. The process takes time for all steps to be completed, so make inquiries as soon as possible.
