After School Activities

  • The Highland Coding Club: Wednesdays from 2:45 - 3:45. Students engage in fun lessons from Code.org, a nonprofit dedicated to expanding access to computer science in schools and increasing participation by young women and students from other underrepresented groups.

Our Green Team: Fridays from 2:45-3:30. The Green Team's duration will be through 5/17/24.
Our Green Team was established in 2018 and earned its first Florida Green Apple designation. Subsequently, Highland is one of three schools in all of Palm Beach County to be a 2020 USDOE Honerre and receive the prestigious, lifetime recognition of being a Green Ribbon School. Our goal and mission is to ensure that our recycling system is sustainably enhanced, resulting in Green Team students becoming self-starting Green stewards of the environment. Students on the Green team will explore the grounds on Highland's campus and assist with problem-solving solutions as we begin our initiative of growing food for our students to take home.
We work closely with ECS, USDOE, GRS, FLDOE, and ECS.

    Ukulele Club: Mondays, 2:45 - 4:00
Mrs. Smith and supporting Co-Teacher Mrs. Bacher teach Ukulele, Orff instruments, and other classroom percussion, incorporating the Orff process of teaching music. This is a performance group that will participate in our Winter concert and our Spring concert as well as Biblioarte.

    Chorus: Wednesdays and Fridays, 2:45 - 4:00
Chorus practice (voice building, ear training, singing) with Mrs. Bacher and supporting Co-Teacher, Mrs. Smith, is for 3rd-5th grade students interested in participating in musical theater vocal performance as well as in our school concerts and community performances. Participants also learn how to create accompaniments on classroom instruments using the Orff approach of learning to create music.

Musical Theater: Wednesdays and Thursdays Time: 3:00 to 4:30
Highland's Musical Theater program is starting as a grant from Disney Musicals in Schools. Musical theater clubs in elementary school can provide many benefits for children, including increased confidence, improved academic performance, enhanced creativity, improved social skills, increased self-discipline, and the opportunity to develop specific skills such as singing, dancing, and acting. Musical theater can be a great way for children to have fun while also developing important life skills.
