Dr. Washington Collado Biography & Presentation

This workshop will provide a window where we can marvel at the Latino present in the United States past, present, and future. Latino presence has been influential in all aspects of the American way of life: historical contributions in the battle fields, cultural richness, and architectural treasures.

Dr. Collado began his career in education in 1986 in New York where he taught Spanish and English as a Second Language in New York City Public Schools. In 1992, moved to Florida and continued teaching at Miami-Dade Public Schools. In 1998, went to Broward County Public Schools’ Multicultural Department, with over 250,000 students, to write curriculum and conduct training's for teachers and administrators on the contributions of Latinos, African Americans, and Women throughout the History of the United States. 

Dr. Collado began his career in school administration as an assistant principal at Broward County Public Schools & was promoted to principal in 2005. He has served 15 years as principal at schools in South Florida, serving socio-economically diverse schools, ranging from middle school with 900 students to high schools with over 3,000 students. 

Throughout his career, Dr. W. B. Collado has devoted much of his time to orienting school leaders and educators about effective leadership & increasing parental and community engagement. He is a motivational speaker & has been a panelist at CNN Español, Telemundo, Univision, and others. He has written over 100 articles for newspapers & magazines, including the Miami Herald & has published three books: 
• Parents, Don’t Forget your Homework (2009), 
• Padres, no olviden su tarea (2004), 
• Liderazgo y escuelas efectivas (2014). 
Dr. W. B. Collado has received several honors and recognition nationally and internationally for his work in schools and communities. He is married to Carmen R. Collado for over 30 years and together they are proud parents of four boys: Mario, Alejandro, Miguel, and Victor.

Latino Presence in the United States: Curricular Strengthening by Infusion Latino's History, Presence, and Culture
The presence of Latinos (Hispanics) in the United Students predates any other European presence. Latino presence  has been influential in all aspects of the American way of life:  historical contributions in the battle fields, cultural richness, architectural treasures, as well as literature music and poetry. When we as educators present the historical landscape of American history, the curricular planning and design must account for the mosaic of cultures that contributed to the majesty, strength, and cultural richness of the United States in all its true form.  This workshop will provide a window through we can marvel at the Latino present in the United States past, present, and future.
