Community Collaborations

  • Recognizing the critical importance of STEM education in the lives of their students, the School District of Palm Beach County is dedicated to advancing quality STEM education. A variety of STEM-related opportunities for K-12 students are offered by District staff and community partners.

    Lion Country Safari

    • Since beginning our collaboration in 2013,  the District's STEM Team has engaged in a number of both in-person and virtual science/STEM-based learning experiences. We conduct "Christmas with the Chimps" activities annually where students build enrichment objects for the chimpanzees living at LCS, conduct virtual field trips throughout the year, and host Keeper Chats where students learn about the animals at the zoo and the keepers that take care of them.

Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience

    • Our partnership with Max Planck Florida has resulted in STEM-themed teacher professional development opportunities & virtual "Meet the Scientist" chats so that students can learn more regarding the cutting edge research taking place locally and more about the practices and tools that scientists use on a regular basis to grow our scientific understanding of the standards-based content that students learn about in class.

Florida Atlantic University Stiles-Nicholson Brain Institute

    • This new collaboration seeks to provide professional development to teachers and provide immersive STEM experiences to our students through VR experiments grounded in lab work and research being done locally at FAU’s Brain Institute.  In conjunction with the hands-on learning opportunities provided by the “Brain Bus”, students can learn hands-on about the real-world application of science and STEM content in the classroom.
