School and Classroom Library Services Opt Out Procedures

  • All District schools have School Library Media Centers to provide equitable access to print and electronic resources, including eBooks and databases, for student use in academic and leisure learning. Selection of these materials are based on standards established by the State and School Board P-8.12. In addition to School Library Media Centers, many classrooms provide equitable access to print and electronic resources, including eBooks and databases, for student use in academic and leisure learning.

School Media Center inventories of materials accessible to students are located on every individual school's website.

Classroom Library inventories of materials may be found on all Elementary school websites.

Parents have the right to limit his or her student's access to materials in the school or classroom library and place checkout restrictions on their child’s account.

To place restrictions on student accounts or opt out of services for materials, please send a written notice to the school-based Library Media Specialist or the school Principal.

    The written notice should include:

    • Date
    • Student Name
    • Teacher Name
    • Grade Level
    • State the School Library or Classroom Library Opt Out/Restrictions/Limitations
    • Parent Signature and Print name

Note that this consent will need to be resubmitted at the beginning of each academic school year.
