Junior International Thespian Society

  • The Junior International Thespian Society (ITS) is almost 80 years old and has individual high school and middle school troupes all over the world. ITS is an honor society for advanced theatre students and students who love to work in theatre in all aspects including acting, technical skills, design, marketing and theatre management. Any Bak student may join Troupe 88441 while earning points toward a formal initiation at the end of the school year. Although attending regular monthly meetings is encouraged, recognizing that our students have very busy schedules, it is not required. In order to join the club and attend the meetings students must turn in the ITS permission slip and registration forms. Those forms are available in the theatre building on the ITS bulletin board. Students WILL NOT be permitted to stay after school without the proper forms turned in.

The International Thespian Society is the only theatre honor society for middle and high school students in the United States. Affiliation brings credibility and distinction to students, theatre programs, and schools. It is a visible, positive symbol of the quality of your theatre program.

ITS recognizes, rewards, and encourages student achievement and celebrates the work of students in all aspects of theatre – performance and production. Each student is honored on a national level and gains access to opportunities and resources beyond those of their school.

Our students will have the opportunity to be adjudicated at both a district and state level through the Festivals that are being presented in November and February. Because we have such a large troupe, we hold mini-festivals here at school. Students must present their work at these “minifests” if they are interested in participating district & state-wide. Below is some additional information:

    Minifest 2023

Minifest is the Theatre Department’s annual individual events festival in which students have the opportunity to perform independently selected and rehearsed individual events pieces in front of a panel of judges for feedback. High scoring performances may be selected to represent our troupe at the Jr. International Thespian Society District Festival.

Individual event performances are divided into 3 categories and takes place over the course of 2 different days:

9/20 - Technical Theatre (Costume Design, Set Design, Scene Writing, Publicity Design, Makeup Design)
9/20 - Acting (Monologue, Duet Acting, Ensemble Acting, Pantomime, Improvisation)

Students can sign up for minifest on the sign-up sheets beginning August 31st on the ITS bulletin board directly across from Mr. Fredrickson’s room (1-125).
