Medical Sciences

  • Medical Science classes offer a great start for students interested in the field of medicine and will provide students with medical skills and training necessary to succeed in healthcare careers. Students can earn healthcare industry certifications that prepare them for employment after high school. Students will participate in student clinical rotations at healthcare facilities in the community. All medical courses provide an honors credit if successfully completed. Students are required to maintain a 3.0 overall GPA and a 3.0 in each of the courses. 

    Course Sequence

    9th Grade: Health Science Anatomy & Physiology
    This course consists of a study of the human body, both structurally and functionally, with emphasis on the pathophysiology and transmission of disease. Medical terminology is an integral part of the course. Laboratory investigations that include scientific inquiry, research, measurement, problem-solving, emerging technologies, tools and equipment, as well as, experimental quality, and safety procedures will be an integral part of this course. This course is part of the two credit Health Science Core and is required as a prerequisite for all medical programs.


    10th Grade: Health Science Foundations Honors
    This course is designed to provide the student with an in-depth knowledge of the healthcare system and associated occupations. Emphasis is placed on communication and interpersonal skills, use of technology, ethics and the development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Students will also learn first aid skills and demonstrate the measurement of vital signs. This course is part of the two credit Health Science Core and is required as a prerequisite for all medical programs. 


    11th: Behavioral Health Technician
    This course is designed to provide an integrated cross-trained foundation and practical experience in behavioral and social sciences. The content includes, but is not limited to, basic psychopharmacology, medical terminology, electronic medical records and documentation, patient teaching and education, wellness and disease concepts, mental illness, growth and development, diseases and disorders. 


    12th Grade: Pharmacy Technician

    Eligibility Requirement: 3.0 GPA
    Live in SRHS Zone
    4 year Academy

    Industry Certs: 

    Certified Electronic Health Records Specialist (CEHRS)

    Certified Behavioral Health Technician (CBHT)

    Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT)
