    Purpose and Functions

The Strategic Communications and Engagement department provides a wide range of communications services to support District students and schools. The mission of the department is to build stronger links with employees, families, students, and the community through direct communication and marketing services, or by facilitating the communication efforts of its schools and departments.

    • The communications team keeps stakeholders up-to-date with information through multiple channels, including the District’s website, social media, news media outlets, internal and external newsletters,  calendar of events, flyers, special publications, and more. The department engages in media relations, marketing, as well as internal and external communications.
    • The engagement team creates opportunities for public input and meaningful engagement using linguistically and culturally effective strategies. The department is comprised of the engagement and outreach staff, District coordinator of volunteers in schools, and the liaison for business and community partnerships. The District’s switchboard is also managed by operators on the engagement team who field hundreds of calls each day.
