The School Counseling Department at Dr. Joaquín García High School is committed to empowering students in their academic, personal/social, and career development. Our department is committed to providing comprehensive and proactive services to serve the unique needs of each student. We are committed to providing resources for post-secondary success for students pursuing higher education, career certification, and/or military service. Our goals are aligned with the School District of Palm Beach County to educate, affirm, and inspire students by providing equity and access throughout their educational journey in our A-Rated school district.
Jamie Campbell
Mrs. Campbell is pleased to begin her thirteenth year as an educator with the Palm Beach School District at Dr. Joaquin Garcia High School. She has twelve years of experience in Lee County, Florida, where she served as an elementary school teacher for six years, instructing students in grades four, three, kindergarten, and resource/MTSS Coordinator. In 2014, she earned her Master of Education in School Counseling from Florida Gulf Coast University, and this will be her seventh year as a school counselor. In May 2017, she began working as the Director of Social Services and Education for Community Cooperative, a non-profit organization in Lee County, until July 2020. Mrs. Campbell's passion is to work with students, families, and school staff, which motivated her to return to the school district. In August 2022, she completed her Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from Barry University. She is originally from New Hampshire and is married to Sholondo. They have twin girls who will be entering sixth grade in the Palm Beach School District this year.
Kim Garni
Ms. Garni is originally from New Jersey where she graduated from Seton Hall University as the valedictorian of the Secondary Education program. She started her career as a Biology teacher in Jersey and then taught AP Psychology in Florida. Ms. Garni was previously a school counselor at Spanish River High School and is looking forward to working with the new students and parents at Dr. Garcia High! Her passion is helping students to create a path towards post secondary success, whether that’s fine-tuning a schedule for a specific major, college, or career.
Soledad Hernandez
Ms. Hernandez has worked in a variety of schools and served students in different roles. She has been working with the Palm Beach school district since 2009, first as a middle school science teacher and since 2016 as a school counselor. She graduated with a master's degree in School Counseling from Florida Atlantic University and holds a bachelor degree in Science with a major in Chemistry from The Pontifical Catholic University Of Puerto Rico. Ms. Hernandez enjoys working with all students and is delighted in working with ELL students as she was an ELL student herself and later her children were ELL students as well. She has a passion to promote academic, social/emotional, and college/career development, while ensuring equity and access for all students.
Fanny Lambis
Ms. Lambis was born in Colombia and grew up in Palm Beach County. At age nine, Ms. Lambis came to the United States and was an ESOL student herself. Ms. Lambis is proud to be a graduate of the School District of Palm Beach County. She has worked in diverse Palm Beach County Schools positions for over nine years. Such as ESOL/bilingual School Counselor, Afterschool Site Director, and Assistant Afterschool Site Director. She earned her Bachelor of Arts: in Early Care Education (BECE) from Florida Atlantic University and her Master of Science: in School Counseling from Palm Beach Atlantic University. Ms. Lambis enjoys helping her students and their families navigate the social and emotional changes of a new academic system, a new country, and a social environment.
Bridget Mantooth-Urso
Bridget is a graduate of the school district of Palm Beach County. She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and classical civilizations from Florida State University and a master’s degree in school counseling from Nova Southeastern University. Bridget has worked as a high school counselor since 2014 in the School District of Palm Beach County. She has worked at Atlantic Community High School and Palm Beach Central High School during her time in the district. She has been selected for the emerging leaders program for the Florida School Counselor Association for 2023-2024. Bridget is currently enrolled at Florida Atlantic University’s doctoral program in Counselor Education and Supervision.
Below are the minimum requirements needed for high school graduation. Additional requirements are needed for College/University Admissions and those seeking the AICE Diploma, Scholar Diploma Designation or Merit Diploma Designation.
A total of 24 credits are required for a standard high school diploma. Students must successfully complete the following coursework:
24 Credit Standard Diploma
English: 4 credits required: ELA Honors, AP, AICE and Dual Enrollment courses satisfy this requirement
Math: 4 credits required: Must include Algebra 1 & Geometry. Industry certifications that lead to college credit may substitute for up to two mathematics credits (except for Algebra 1 & Geometry)
*Only one math credit earned at the middle school level can count towards the 4 required in High School
Science: 3 credits required: Must include one equally rigorous Physical Science, Biology, & one Science credit. Industry certifications that lead to college credit may substitute for up to one Science credit (except for Biology)
Social Studies: 3 credits required: must include World History, U.S. History, ½ American Government, ½ Economics credit.
Performing Arts, Fine Arts or Practical Arts: 1 credit required
Physical Education: 1 credit required ½ credit of Personal Fitness and ½ credit of a P.E. class
Elective Credits: 8 credits required
New graduation requirement for students entering 9th grade in SY 2023-2024: ½ credit in personal financial literacy course
Community Service: 20 hours
Virtual Credit: 1 course
FLVS, PB Virtual or an online dual enrollment course earned
Additional Requirements
A cumulative grade point average of 2.0 is needed in ALL high school credit courses.
A passing score on the 10th grade FSA ELA Reading and Algebra I or concordant score on the Geometry EOC.
Students enrolled in the following courses must participate in the corresponding EOC Assessment which constitutes 30% of the final course grade.
